If you follow the trends on social media, you will have noticed the recent popularity of the hashtag #MannequinChallenge. From the White House to the Thanksgiving tables of families enjoying their feasts, people have been sharing a glimpse of their world mannequin style…aka frozen (for lack of a better word) with the rest of the world. When I see social media phenomenons go viral, I sometimes laugh and think to myself- “Boy, people sure do have a lot of time on their hands” or the classic “What in the world were they thinking?”. But I have come to appreciate these little bits of humor and fun and ultimately realize that it is a way (although quite weird) that we all can connect with each other on some personal level.
Well I own only own one “real” mannequin. And I am pretty sure she is missing important pieces like her arms, lower body and legs! I have many many busts… but they just would not work for this. I have two wigs, and lots of vintage clothes, hats and jewelry. The photo shoot mannequin, who I have named Simone, was in the “for sale” pile in my back room before this photo shoot. I just did not love her in the way that I do other things in my home. Well- after the fun I had last night, dressing her up and creating photos of her- she is not going anywhere.
She only had one small hole for an earring in her left ear. She is old- and I am not going to alter her in anyway. Her earlobes were too big to hold clip on earrings. I had a gorgeous 1950’s yellow and gold dress to put on her- but it would not zip up the back. We did what we could. She has her scars, scrapes, bumps and chippy skin…but I think her debut is quite grand.
Along with her- are some photos that I took of my friends two mannequins that are on display in his space in Bella Marketplace in Boulder City, Nevada. I am sure that there will be more fabulous photos of Francine and Hilda ( my names for them) coming soon!
I showed these to my son who informed me that the #MannequinChallenge is a video and it must be a video of people pretending to be mannequins. While I completely understand this- I told him that this is just Got Good Bones®’ take on it- and that Simone lives the frozen life everyday. I know she enjoyed getting dressed up, given a few new looks and photographed for all to see a day in her life. Enjoy!
